Premier Women
Congratulations to Team Canada's Premier Women!
2012-2013 SELECTION and TESTING PROTOCOL for the premier women for 2013. The 3 premier programs have taken the time to build a cooperative test. This means one general test for women, mixed and open, and only one testing fee.
The initial test is very basic. Just general strength exercises and Multistroke Erg Testing. If you are not familiar with the machine, get familiar! While not perfect, this will become a staple for dry-land testing now and in the future. It gives us a very good idea of your specific paddling strength and fitness. Certainly better than any other dry-land exercise we could do. Its limitations of course are that it does not test connection with the water. This is why we will also do OC testing later on. The two complement each other and give us a good overall picture. OC is not included in the first test because results cannot really be compared unless we’re all in the same type of boat and water.
If the Multistroke is new to you, don’t expect to jump on the machine and be a star. Even experienced athletes will need a few workouts to adapt, but the more you’ve paddled, the faster it will come.
Erg tests will be filmed to assure proper form, and you’ll all test at the same weight. Bear in mind a crew needs both big and small paddlers so size is considered, but for comparative’s sake we’d rather have everyone on the same baseline.
The fees are similar to last time.
This information is for general distribution so feel free to pass onto anyone, and then get in touch with the appropriate regional coach. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions. Summer is busy with lots of travelling so it may take me a few days to get back to you if not urgent, or right away if I’m front of the computer!
