Team Captain Wayne Gregory has this to say about the 2013 Canadian Senior B Mixed and Open Crews:

Ladies and Gentlemen,

You should all be proud to be on the roster for the Canadian National Granddragon Team – for some of you it will be your first time, and it will be an amazing experience – and for others, it will be a repeat performance.

However, make no mistake about it – IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO MERELY HAVE MADE THE TEAM – we will have the stiffest competition we have faced yet – and we have lost some high level paddlers to attrition over the last year. Therefore, everyone on the roster, “rookies” and “veterans” alike will need to step up their game in the next four months and get a few per cent faster and a few pounds lighter (especially with the Champion boats!).  Two years ago, in the men’s races, Poland and Russia were nipping at our heels, and the former eastern bloc countries will have more countries entered and stiffer competition.  We are the team to beat, and they will be gunning for us.

Now is the time, when the water is no longer hard, to paddle, paddle and paddle.  Whether it is in dragonboats, outriggers, or even marathon canoes –the more hours spent paddling in the next few months, the better we will be!

See you on the water,

Captain Wayne
