Photographing dragon boat festivals can be an awesome challenge. Each venue provides its own unique set of problems... access to the race course, distance of the race and all the other things that make getting the job done so interesting.
I use a 75-300mm zoom lens for most of my work, and there are some venues where it's functionally useless for racing, because even the finish line is too far away for the sort of tight shots I like so much.
For that reason, I tend to focus on people - they're so much more fun!
