Crew Director and National Team Coach - Brad Howie

Brad has been involved in paddling for 20 years.  Starting out in 1990 in Dragon Boat and branching out into outrigger and flatwater kayaking.  During this tiem he has been to many interantional festivals ranging from Hong Kong, 2002 CCWC in Rome, and 2006 CCWC in Toronto, winning a variety of medals in these events.  Whithin North America, he has particpated in events across the West.
Brad has been coaching Dragon Boat since 2000.  The teams he has coached have participated in many events and with great success.  The teams have won the Vancouver Rio Tinto Festival, Victoria, Kelowna and many others.  REcently he has been working with younger Dragon Boaters with a goal to elevate their performance to that of the Premier Crews.  Over the last two years, the current team coached by Brad has gone from Novice level to being in the top teams in western North America.

National Team Coach - Kamini Jain

After spending nine years on the Canadian Sprint Canoe/Kayak team, Kamini started directing her competitive drive toward coaching the False Creek Racing Canoe Club Men’s and Mixed Dragon Boat teams in 2005.

Under her leadership, the teams have flourished, gaining national and international recognition by earning four gold and one silver at the 2006 World Club Crew Championships and a gold and silver in mixed at the 2007 World Championships.

As an athlete, Kamini competed in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics and has many international podium finishes in outrigger canoe and dragon boat.

Kamini is excited to be the coach of Canada’s Premier Open and Mixed Dragon Boat Teams for 2009.

Kamini coaches paddle-sports full-time through her company Right Angle Performance.

Senior B (Grand Dragon) Open and Mixed

Program Director- Gord Cole

Gord came to dragon boating in 2003 after many years and many victories in marathon paddling which included a mix of provincial, national and world titles.
As a dragon boater, Gord has competed with great success in World Championships and Club Crew World Championships in China, Poland, Toronto, Sydney and Penang.

The owner of Aqua-cage Fisheries in Parry Sound, Ontario, Gord has sponsored the aptly-named Eat Trout teams in the Grand Dragon division since 2005. The nucleus of that team won multiple gold medals in Sydney and the club crews in Toronto and Penang.

The Canadian Grand Dragon crew  and their coach Stan Machacek, proved themselves to be in a league of their own, bringing home Gold in all distances.

Premier Women

Program Director-Dr. Gavin Maxwell

Gavin has been involved with the National Premier Women since 2007 when he took over an already very successful program based out of Toronto. The National Premier Women completed a clean sweep, winning gold in all distances at the 2007 World championships in Sydney Australia.

Gavin comes from a background in sprint canoe racing where he was a member of the National team for 10 years. Competing in 5 world championships and the 1996 Olympic games where he race in the C-1 1000m event. He has also represented Canada at 3 World championships in Dragon boat.

Gavin currently paddles with the Mayfair Predators. He began coaching dragon boat in 1998. Professionally he is a chiropractor at Urban Athlete in Toronto. He has also studied contemporary Acupuncture at McMaster University, is a certified Active Release Technique provider and an NSCA Strength and Conditioning specialist

Senior B (Grand Dragon) Women

Program Director-Stephen Kwok

Stephen has been paddling dragon boats since 1989. He is the sponsor/custodian of the International Dragon Boat Federation’s Senior Nations Cup (The Kwok Koo Trophy) and was instrumental in the creation of the Senior and Grand Masters Divisions of the IDBF.

Steve has participated in all IDBF World Championships since 1997. As a paddler he was a gold medalist in 2001 (Senior Division), 2003 (Senior), 2005 (Senior and Grand Dragon) and 2007 (Grand Dragon).

As a coach, Stephen has lead winning National Teams since 2000, and has coached the following highly competitive community dragon boat teams: Sing Fai, Ontario Public Service, Stroke The Dragon, MOFOS, Hydrophobics, Shockwave, Windburn, Torpedoes, TAD Dragons, and American teams including Wall Street Dragons (New York), MAD dragons (Miami) and the Puff Dragons.

The Senior B Grand Dragon women controlled the event winning Gold in all distances at the 2009 World Championships.

Albert and coach Jim Farintosh were able to bring together a virtually unstoppable group of indivdiuals for the 2009 World Championships.  The team brought together former Olympians, teammates and extraordinary Senior athletes from across the country to build this cohesive crew that had an excess of skill, talent, and experience.

This dynamic program was lead by Jonathon Holllins, Anina Sakaguchi and Scott Murray.  With most of the athletes from this program training in Frenchman's Bay in Pickering Ontario these crews were bolustered with added power and expertise with athletes from British Columbia and the province of Quebec.

The future leaders of our sport these young athletes did their country proud both on and off the water.
